Turn a mesh into a flat drawing

This converter projects the triangles in an STL file onto a two-dimensional SVG canvas. It is useful for mesh diagrams and illustrations. Front uses the X and Y coordinates, Top uses X and Z, and Side uses Z and Y; the Isometric view combines all three axes. The output contains projected triangle paths, including their internal edges, rather than a cleaned silhouette or a cross-section.

Why Choose Our STL to SVG Converter?

Choose the output that fits your task and inspect the converted file before using it

🚀

Four views

Choose Front, Top, Side, or Isometric from the conversion options.

🔒

Triangle paths

The SVG contains the projected triangle geometry, including internal mesh edges.

⚡

Optional shading

Solid fill adds grayscale faces using triangle orientation and depth ordering.

🎯

Browser processing

The projection runs in your browser without sending the STL to a conversion server.

How to Convert STL to SVG

Select a source file, run the conversion, and check the result

1

Select an STL mesh

Choose an ASCII or binary STL within the upload limit shown by the tool. Keep the original mesh for 3D edits.

2

Choose the projection

Open the conversion options and select Front, Top, Side, or Isometric. Leave Solid fill off for wireframe edges, or enable it for shaded faces.

3

Inspect the SVG

Convert, preview the drawing, and download it. Check the orientation and overlapping edges in your SVG editor before using it in a diagram.

What the projection contains

The converter reads ASCII or binary STL triangles in your browser, projects their vertices into the selected view, and fits the drawing within a 500 by 500 SVG coordinate area. Solid fill adds grayscale shading, removes back-facing triangles, and draws remaining faces by their average depth. Intersecting or overlapping surfaces can still need manual cleanup.

An edge-on mesh can have no two-dimensional extent. Choose another view if conversion reports this.

The SVG is fitted to its projected bounds; STL has no unit field, so the download is not a dimensioned manufacturing drawing.

Solid fill is a simple shaded projection. It does not calculate a clean outline, a section, or an exact visibility solution for intersecting surfaces.

Troubleshooting the result

The selected view produces no drawing

The mesh may be edge-on, or Solid fill may remove all visible faces.

Try another view. Turn Solid fill off to inspect the wireframe.

There are many lines inside the outline

Each STL triangle becomes a path, so triangle seams and rear edges can appear.

Use an SVG editor to remove unwanted edges. Use a CAD section or silhouette tool when that is the drawing you need.

The dimensions do not match a physical part

STL has no unit field and the SVG is fitted to a drawing area.

Keep the original mesh and establish the required scale in your target application.
